ThistechniqueallowsyoutokeepyourPCconnectedtoyourLAN,butkeepsthedriveofftheLAN,preventing
possibleIPconflictsorexcessivetraffic.
1. IfyouuseadesktopPCandhaveasparecardslot,installasecondNICandconnectitdirectlytothe
driveusingaCAT5cable.Youdon’tneedaspecial“crossovercable”;thedrivewillautomatically
detectthedirectconnectionandmakethenecessaryphysicallayerchanges.
2. IfyouusealaptopandonlyconnecttoyourLANusingwirelessnetworking,youcanuse thebuilt‐in
RJ45EthernetconnectionasyoursecondNIC.
3. SettheIPaddressonthedriveto“10.10.10.10”bysettingtherotaryswitchat“0”.
4. TosettheIPaddressofthesecondNIC:
a. OnWindowsXP,rightclickon“MyNe tworkPlaces”andselectproperties.
b. OnWindows7,clickComputer.Scrolldowntheleftpaneuntilyousee“Netwo rk”.Rightclickand
